| At Annie’s, the wines are chosen by our somellier Bruno Bistoquet. He is a Master of Wine, a qualification he achieved at Ecole de Saumur in the Loire Valley. These are some of Bruno’s recommendations from our chalkboard wine menu.
White Wines:
- Tariquet Sauvignon Blanc, Cote de Gascogne, France 2009
This is a lightly fruity, medium-bodied wine with an abundance of exotic aromas of pineapple and mango. This is a great wine as an aperitif and also works well with chicken and pork dishes.
- Villa Wolf, Pinot Gris, Pfalz, Mosel, Germany 2009
An attractive peach fruit flavour and a lovely creamy texture. This wine is a great combination with salads and lightly spiced dishes, an ideal match with some of our Moroccan-influenced cuisine.
- Albariño, Galacia, Spain 2009
A dry, crisp wine with mineral undertones. A perfect accompaniment to all seafood dishes, especially grilled fish.
Red Wines:
- Malbec Reserve, Cafayate Valley, Argentina 2008
Dry, full-bodied red wine with a hint of tobacco. Think of Argentina: think of Malbec with a good steak!
- Corbieres, Languedoc, France 2007
A truly magnificent wine from the South of France. This is an elegant, well-balanced wine with soft tannins. Ideal with red meats and game.
- Amarone della Valopicella, Italy 2006
A new style of Amarone with Bordeaux influences, however keeps its distinctive notes of dark chocolate and black cherry aromas. This classy wine sits comfortably with red meats, particularly roast lamb and venison. |
